Tall Oaks Christian School has two main distinctives that are applied to each of the subjects we teach:
1. A Christian World and Life View
Tall Oaks Christian School affirms that the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments is God’s authoritative self-revelation and provides the foundation for the interpretation of all of life. We believe that in giving mankind dominion over His creation, God also made us responsible to understand the universe and our place in it. Therefore, we use the Scripture as our interpretive framework as we strive to understand all aspects of God’s creation as well as human culture. Tall Oaks Christian School was formed not to advocate withdrawal from the world, but to the contrary, to help students intelligently interact with the world with a thoroughly-equipped and discerning Christian mind.
2. A Classical Methodology
We adopted the classical methodology as a historically sound way to shape the content of our teaching. The classical model includes three stages known as the Trivium. These stages logically correspond with the normal stages of a child’s cognitive development.
The Grammar Stage, grades K-6, involves gathering information and foundational facts and rules for each subject, with an emphasis on memorization.
The Logic Stage, grades 7-9, emphasizes researching and assembling the facts learned in the previous stage into their proper relationships by developing sound reasoning skills through formal logic instruction.
The Rhetoric Stage, grades 10-12, applies the data of the grammar stage and the reasoning skills acquired in the logic stage to teach students how to express their thoughts eloquently, creatively and persuasively.
